Texas®

squirrelSmack dab in The Heights rests Hello Lucky, one of the most delightfully jam packed with goodness boutiques this side of the Mississippi.

Owned by installation artist Teresa O’Connor, Hello Lucky is home to locally made goodies like handmade soaps, offbeat flora and fauna pillows, O’Connor’s own screen printed tees and ties, candle holders made of reclaimed wood, vegan friendly jewelry and slap-you-upside-the-head-how-stinkin-cute-are-those Squirrel, Alligator, Rabbit and Fox in a can scarves by Rachelle Vasquez.

But what I admire more than the bird pillows and animal scarves I’m currently coveting is that Teresa has made a home of Hello Lucky for the wares of over 25 other local artists and she does it while giving back to the community.

houstonteeTwo cases in point: Proceeds from her own ‘You Are Amazing’ tees go to benefit Houston’s animal shelter Friends For Life, while the ever popular ‘It’s Okay to Heart Houston’ t-shirt, designed by artist Dean Haddock, benefits Spacetaker, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing local artists and small non-profits access to economic, educational and networking resources.

Whether you live in the Houston area or not, O’Connor makes it easy to shop even when you can’t visit the storefront. Most of her wares are available on the store’s web site and if you see something you like and it happens to be sold out, one quick call or email to Teresa and she’ll make sure you get whatever it is your little heart desires.
