Winos and music go hand in hand I do believe. That’s why it makes so much sense to visit Times Ten Cellars every second Wednesday of the month.
Seems that way back in July my friend Dave Heidle, member of arguably the world’s tallest band, quietly (sneakily) started a wine infused music night called, appropriately, Wine Down Wednesday. If you haven’t heard of the event, its probably because Dave isn’t exactly known for bragging on himself. That being said, I sat down with Dave to get the skinny on how Wine Down Wednesdays was conceived.
Heidle says that a good friend of his, Matt Thompson, was asked to be a part of a charity event back in June, a benefit for Crohn’s disease, and several people were putting together a happy-hour style event at Times Ten Cellars in Lakewood. The benefit was held every Wednesday in June, and Matt asked Eastwood to play a couple of the events. Fortunately for them, it became a huge success. Says Heidle, “Once June was over, we kept getting asked about doing another Wine Down Wednesday. So, we went to the guys at Times Ten and worked out a deal to continue the series on a monthly basis. The venue is unique, and it really created a relaxing but fun atmosphere for listening to music.”
Thus, Wine Down Wednesdays were born.
The fourth Wine Down Wednesday starts tonight at 7:30 with Matt Thompson and features the incomparable, warm, complex, thought provoking Doug Burr at around 8:45. (Doug Burr, in my humble opinion, is a hidden jewel among a vast and complex wasteland of costume jewelry, but be warned, if you’re of the female persuasion, Doug Burr WILL make you swoon.)
Though this will be the last of the series for 2008, Dave assures me that Wine Down Wednesdays will resume on January 14 of 2009. Though Dave is still working out the particulars, 2009′s lineups will include the likes of Travis Hopper, Dave Little, and JD Whittenburg as part of the series.
