Texas®

We’ve been house and pet sitting a border collie and a snoring, snorting, wheezing, stubborn English Bulldog for the last few days, so it’s given us some time to explore parts of North Texas that we usually wouldn’t when lunch or dinner time rolls around.

churroYesterday we visited Petra Essence of Mexico for lunch and were pleasantly surprised.  The variety of honest-to-goodness real Mexican food was outstanding. I ordered the fish tacos, which were extremely flavorful and accompanied with a zingy slaw that was out of this world. I also wheedled and whined until I was able to procure a taste of my husband’s barbacoa tacos. The brisket was seasoned with a nice blend of smoky/tangy and just a hint of heat.  Though they were not quite the caliber of Mia’s brisket tacos in Uptown, they were pretty dang good.

Chef Beto was kind enough to bring over a honkin’ large order of  homemade churros which came with a caramel sauce and strawberry puree. Chewy, warm and delicately dusted with cinnamon and sugar, the churros were a perfect end to our lunch and I snagged a second order to go. Reheated in a low oven this morning, I ate all but one out of pure, unadulterated selfishness*. They were excellent with my morning quarts of coffee.

I cant wait to go back for more.
