Texas®

Not too long after Dallas Morning News’  editor Bob Mong announced that the  newspaper will now be run by its advertisers, my favorite non-Texas diversion, Gawker, reported this afternoon that Daily Candy is dumping Dallas:

DailyCandy is eliminating the special editions for seven of its twelve cities, according to an internal memo we’ve obtained, resulting in almost as many layoffs. NBC Universal, take heed: Even inside Comcast’s profitable umbrella, no one is safe from cutbacks.

Comcast paid an un-BLEEPing-believable $125 million for DailyCandy — just a simple shopping e-newsletter, if you’re not familiar with it — just over a year ago, greatly enriching former AOL exec Bob Pittman, who had previously acquired it for $3 million. Amid all the investment, DailyCandy expanded from New York to London, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami, Dallas, DC, Boston, Atlanta, Seattle and Philly.

I gotta ask, was it because the Houston Press said Dallas, “smelled like plastic and self-loathing?”

Did it have something to do with those broads – trust me, they ain’t ladies – on Dallas Divas & Daughters?

Is it because of that erroneous report that Dallas is now in San Diego, California?

Was it something we said?

    A.) Great blog, Lynn!

B.) We do our best to talk about new and nifty places in Dallas, but, at the risk of being yelled at, I can also suggest D Magazine’s ShopTalk blog, too! It isn’t the same, but it’s a start!

  3. Jeannette says:

I’m sure someone else will fill their shoes…no love lost! We have plenty of talented folks here that can pick up where they left off.

  4. Perhaps, Groupon will fill their shoes.

This makes me so sad….I look forward to opening my Inbox every morning to see what Daily Candy has sent me.
