So if you follow this blog, you know it’s no secret that my hubby is shipping off to basic training for the Air Force soon.
In fact, I’m boarding a bus tomorrow with a bunch of new recruits – along with the hubster – and paying a visit to Sheppard Air Force Base, Home of the 82nd Training Wing and 80th Flying Training Wing.
That being said, when I received an email from Kent Rathbun’s Abacus late yesterday, it struck quite the chord when I read what they were doing for our armed services:
On Saturday, December 12, Abacus will be hosting its 6th annual Seats for Soldiers event where we provide a three course meal to military personnel that have either been wounded in combat or have recently returned home from a year of active duty overseas. Over 150 soldiers will arrive at the Abacus parking lot at 5 p.m. and we would like to ask you to join us in giving them a standing ovation as they make their way into Abacus and to their seats. This is truly a great opportunity for us all to get into the holiday spirit and show our appreciation for all that they do. Happy Holidays and I hope to see you on Saturday!
There’s no RSVP is required. Just show up at 4:30 p.m., dress warmly for hanging out in the parking lot for the event and give your most heartfelt applause for the troops who will begin to arrive at 5 that evening. The restaurant will be completely closed to non-servicemen and women until 7:30 that night.
