Texas®

In late March of this year, Best of Texas threw a charity event, (you all helped us raised a ton of cash and a carload of donations for The Bridge, btw) with the help of their friends at Jack’s Backyard and local Dallas band, Eastwood. Little did I know I’d been nominated for TLC’s hit show, ‘What Not to Wear’ by my husband, Joshua. So it was at the event that Stacy and Clinton pounced.

When I returned from my trip to New York, I wanted to find a way help give others a taste of the experience, because being on the show gave me far more than just a new wardrobe. Stacy and Clinton genuinely helped me find my confidence again. (Think ten years of cognitive behavioral therapy in a matter of days.) I knew we’d promised everyone a watching party, so it just made sense that we turn the party into a charity raffle that would benefit Attitudes & Attire.

Attitudes & Attire goes beyond traditional job training and self-confidence building workshops revolving around personal growth and communications skills. Attitudes & Attire’s clients, women who have had their opportunities for personal growth limited by a variety of issues including abuse, generational poverty, addiction and physical disabilities, also receive image consulting to help them select modern, professional clothing and accessories for the workplace from the Attitudes & Attire Boutique. Becca Haynes, Program Manager and Hopeful Smiles Director, says, “Everyday here at Attitudes & Attire we see how looking good can affect the way that you feel. So we are excited to be a part of such a fun and fitting event to benefit our clients!”

Within a matter of days, donations for the auction poured in from local businesses. Just a few of the packages for the event’s raffle include:

FREAKIN FABULOUS:
An autographed copy of What Not to Wear host Clinton Kelly’s book, ‘Freakin’ Fabulous’

A GIRL’S BEST FRIEND:
56” freshwater pearl necklace with silver charms and diamond from local jewelry designer Cannon Lewis

GRILL MAESTRO:
Whole Foods Market grilling basket with a $25 gift card. The basket, which includes cedar planks, skewers and silicone basting brush, also comes along with a wide variety of rubs, marinades and sauces

YOU’VE GOT GREAT JEANS:
Gift certificates and a private party, including cheese and wine, from Blues Jean Bar

SEXY SASSY HAIR:
Dear Clark salon has donated three gift packages, each of which include a consult cut and style from owner Kaycee Clark and color from either Kimmy Long, Mickey Black or Chantel Rome.

WINE DOWN WITH FRIENDS:
Private wine tasting and winery tour for ten at Times Ten Cellars

Other generous donors include:
Scardello Artisan Cheese, Pure Dental, Troy Richard Salon, Landmark Theaters, Hectors on Henderson, Etsy Dallas members: tefi designs, f. is for frank and Design Roots, Fashion Optical, Golden Beach Tan and Massage Envy.

Guests will be able to buy raffle tickets for $1 per ticket, and 100% of the proceeds will go to Attitudes & Attire. Buy early and buy often to increase your chances of winning! The more you help us raise, the more we can give to Attitudes & Attire!

This FREE event will kick off at 6 p.m. at Jack’s Backyard and will feature live music from Eastwood at 6:45 p.m. followed by the raffle at 7:45. At 8 p.m. all eyes will turn to the big screen as my sure to be somewhat embarrassing episode begins airing.

Will I go from looking like the worst of Texas to looking like the Best of Texas?

Join us on Friday, June 19, at Jack’s Backyard to find out.
